Backbone Unveils Xbox-Exclusive Mobile Controller Design
Xbox is increasingly embracing the mobile gaming world, positioning itself as an identity rather than just a platform. This strategy is evident in their recent collaboration with game peripheral manufacturer Backbone, introducing a new mobile-focused controller called the Backbone One: Xbox Edition. Priced at a recommended retail of $109.99, this controller will be available directly from Backbone and through Best Buy Drops.
The Backbone One: Xbox Edition stands out with its Xbox-inspired design, featuring the familiar XYBA buttons, the iconic Xbox logo, and a striking semi-translucent green finish. Currently, the controller is compatible only with USB-C devices, which includes Android phones and possibly some iOS devices in the future, should the EU's proposed legislation mandating USB-C ports come into effect.
A dollar sign too far? There's no denying the appeal of the Xbox Edition Backbone, especially for those who appreciate the aesthetic of transparent plastic casings. It's particularly attractive to avid users of services like GamePass. However, the $109.99 price tag might be a barrier for some. While significantly less than the cost of a full Xbox console (which exceeds $400), the price for a branded accessory could be a sticking point.
Despite this, Xbox's commitment to expanding its presence in the mobile gaming sector is undeniable. For those curious about what Xbox has to offer on mobile, check out our list of the top 10 best Xbox Games Pass releases for Android!
