The upcoming Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian will notably deviate from its mobile predecessor by foregoing a gacha system, as announced by Koei Tecmo Europe on Twitter (X) on November 26, 2024. This marks a significant departure for the series.

A Gacha-Free Experience

Koei Tecmo's announcement emphasizes the absence of a gacha system, eliminating the need for players to grind or spend money to progress. Unlike many gacha games, character unlocks and powerful item acquisition won't require in-app purchases. Furthermore, the game is designed for offline play, independent of its mobile counterpart. The official website highlights "New protagonists and an original story await in Lantarna," suggesting a shared world but distinct narrative and characters.

The game is slated for release on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025. Pricing and a precise release date remain unannounced.

The Mobile Predecessor's Gacha System

Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, the mobile game that inspired the upcoming title, incorporates a gacha mechanic. While retaining core Atelier elements like synthesis and turn-based combat, it requires players to invest money to strengthen or obtain new characters.

The gacha system utilizes a "spark" mechanic, awarding medals with each pull to unlock characters or Memoria (illustration cards). Acquiring rewards necessitates accumulating a specific number of medals, differing from the more common "pity" system guaranteeing a drop after a certain number of pulls.

Released in January 2024 on Steam, Android, and iOS, the mobile game has received mixed reviews. While mobile platforms show high positive ratings (4.2/5 on Google Play, 4.6 on the App Store), Steam reviews are more mixed, with some players criticizing the expensive gacha system.
