Assassin's Creed Shadows: Free Updates and DLCs Planned, Driven by Community Feedback
Ubisoft has unveiled an exciting roadmap for the first year of post-launch content for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, promising to enrich the gaming experience with features like new game+, enhanced difficulty settings, additional story content, and more. The comprehensive plan was detailed in a concise four-and-a-half-minute video, providing a clear schedule for the updates expected in May and June. This roadmap is designed to keep players engaged with a series of free updates throughout the year, showcasing Ubisoft's commitment to continuous improvement and community engagement.
The rollout begins in early May with The Works of Luis Frois, the first of several free story add-ons. This update will be accompanied by a Codex update and several quality-of-life enhancements. Players can also look forward to substantial parkour additions and an updated photo mode next month. Ubisoft emphasizes that these changes stem from a dedicated effort to listen and respond to community feedback.
“Your feedback has been a core focus of the team throughout development, and that’s not stopping now that Shadows is released,” stated community developer Daniel St. Germain in the video. He assured that regular title updates will feature significant additions and changes based on player feedback, along with essential bug fixes to enhance the experience across all platforms.
In June, fans can anticipate another free story drop, along with more challenging difficulty settings, gameplay immersion options, an open-world alarm system, and the ability to toggle headgear visibility during cutscenes. These updates are in direct response to player requests and are set to elevate the gameplay further. Before the year ends, Ubisoft plans to introduce new game+ support, additional story drops, special collaborations, and other features.
The highlight of the post-launch roadmap is the first major DLC expansion, Claws of Awaji, slated for release later in the year. This expansion promises a 10-hour journey featuring new content such as the Bo staff weapon and a new region for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke to explore. While pricing details are yet to be announced, those who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive this expansion for free.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, bringing Ubisoft’s iconic stealth series to the setting of Feudal Japan. The game's successful release has earned it a spot on our list of the best games of 2025 so far and has also made it the best-selling game of last month.
