AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPU Release Date Announced

Author : Ethan Feb 12,2025

AMD's highly anticipated RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards, unveiled at CES 2025, are finally getting a release date: March 2025. This announcement, made via Twitter/X by David McAfee, VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, confirms the upcoming launch. While McAfee expressed excitement, key details remain elusive. Specifications and pricing are still under wraps.

Market speculation suggests the RX 9070 series will compete directly with Nvidia's RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, launching in February. This proximity fuels theories that AMD's delayed announcement was a strategic move to counter Nvidia's offerings and allow for direct comparisons. Some believe pricing pressures from Nvidia also played a role in the postponement.

Adding to the intrigue, reports suggest review samples of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT have already reached reviewers and retailers. eTeknix, for example, confirmed receiving review units. This pre-release distribution further emphasizes the unusual rollout strategy.

The overall launch messaging has been far from seamless, highlighting AMD's challenge in a market where Nvidia currently holds a dominant 88% share, leaving AMD with a mere 12%, according to a June 2024 report. With limited competition in the mid-range and high-end segments, AMD faces a significant hurdle in its attempt to erode Nvidia's market leadership. The success of the RX 9070 series will be crucial in this endeavor.
