Schedule I’s Copyright Infringement Accuser Gets Review Bombed on Steam
The indie game Schedule I, a dope pushing simulator, has been accused of copyright infringement by Movie Games S.A., the developers behind the The Drug Dealer Simulator series. According to a report by the Polish Press Agency on April 3, Movie Games S.A. concluded their legal analysis suggesting that Schedule I may have infringed upon their intellectual property rights. Their investigation claims that Schedule I borrowed the plot, mechanics, and user interface of their games.
While no official results have been released from the investigation, the gaming community has already taken sides, predominantly supporting Schedule I. As a result, The Drug Dealer Simulator and Drug Dealer Simulator 2 have been hit with numerous negative reviews on Steam, leading to ratings of "Overwhelmingly Negative" and "Mostly Negative," respectively.
The negative reviews focus on Movie Games S.A.'s perceived bullying tactics towards the indie developer and their apparent hypocrisy, noting that similar games were released without issue until Schedule I came along. This backlash is notable, given that the Drug Dealer Simulator series is often praised as one of the best criminal management games by both fans and reviewers.
Schedule I is a fresh co-op crime simulation game where players begin as small-time dealers and aim to rise to the top as kingpins. Launched into Early Access on PC on March 25, it has garnered "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam and currently ranks as the platform's 2nd top-selling game, surpassing titles like inZOI, Monster Hunter Wilds, and the indie game R.E.P.O.. According to SteamDB, Schedule I reached an all-time peak of 459,075 concurrent players at the time of writing.
