3D Walking Simulator with Liminal Spaces, The Exit 8, Lands on Android!
The Exit 8 has now made its way to Android devices, blending elements of mystery and suspense in a unique walking simulator. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this intriguing game is available for just $3.99. It offers players a chilling experience where every step taken is filled with uncertainty and anticipation.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, players find themselves navigating an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. The game traps you in a loop where the environment—tiles, lights, posters, and even a solitary man walking towards you—repeats endlessly. The challenge lies in detecting anomalies within this repetitive setting. These could range from a poster with a changed graphic, flickering lights, or even something as stark as a river of blood replacing the floor. The core mechanic revolves around spotting these subtle changes and reacting swiftly.
If you notice something unusual, you must turn back. If not, you continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake, which means correctly identifying and responding to eight anomalies in succession. Fail to do so, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game's design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the eerie Backrooms. The setting mirrors real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo, capturing the essence of claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture. The Exit 8 immerses players in an environment where they must scrutinize their surroundings for the slightest hints of danger or reality distortion. This constant questioning of memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique and unsettling.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took Kotake Create approximately nine months to develop. Following its PC launch, the game garnered an impressive 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store and dive into its surreal world.
