"Unreal Engine 5.5 Demo Unveils Cyberpunk Future"
An exciting new tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has hit the scene, giving players a thrilling walkthrough of a futuristic cyberpunk city. Crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, this project takes inspiration from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the timeless Blade Runner franchise, and the immersive world of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was showcased running on top-tier hardware, boasting an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM (6000MHz).
This technical demonstration is a showcase of dynamic lighting prowess, highlighting the capabilities of Nanite with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, paired with Screen Space Reflections. Remarkably, it does not rely on advanced features like Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting—demonstrating the power of UE5 even without its most sophisticated tools.
While the rain effect may come across as slightly artificial, the rendering of wet surfaces is remarkably detailed, adding a layer of depth to the urban environment. However, the demo encounters frequent invisible walls, which somewhat detract from the immersive experience. Despite Unreal Engine 5 tech demos consistently delivering visually stunning experiences, games built on the engine often face performance challenges when applied in real-world scenarios.
