Work on Steam FPS Game Paused Because Dev is Going to Prison for 3 Years
Fortune's Run's Development Halted Due to Developer's Imprisonment
The Steam FPS title, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay in its early access phase due to its creator's three-year prison sentence. While development delays in Steam games are common, stemming from financial or technical issues, Fortune's Run's predicament is unique. The sole developer, Dizzie, is incarcerated, halting all progress.
Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed considerable success on Steam, boasting a "Very Positive" rating and praise for its art style and gameplay. However, future updates are now significantly delayed. While games have overcome lengthy development hurdles, Fortune's Run's future remains uncertain.
Dizzie announced the sentence in a January 14th Steam update, stating their three-year imprisonment would interrupt development. While the specific crime remains undisclosed, Dizzie acknowledged a violent past preceding the game's development. This situation, though unusual, highlights the unpredictable nature of game development.
The project initially involved another team member, but their departure following a medical complication and disinterest in game development leaves Dizzie as the sole developer. Development is entirely paused until their release in February 2025. The game's 2026 early access completion target is highly unlikely to be met. However, considering the lengthy early access periods of some indie titles, a three-year delay isn't unprecedented.
Dizzie expressed confidence in completing the game upon release from prison. The current early access build remains playable, and players can explore other excellent early access shooters on Steam in the interim.
