Shenmue III Switch and Xbox Port Now a Real Possibility
ININ Games Acquires Shenmue III Publishing Rights: Xbox and Switch Ports Possible?
The acquisition of Shenmue III's publishing rights by ININ Games has sparked excitement among fans, particularly regarding the potential for releases on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Originally a PlayStation 4 exclusive (released in 2019, also available on PC), this development significantly increases the likelihood of the game reaching a wider audience.
ININ Games' Expertise in Multi-Platform Releases
ININ Games, known for its work bringing classic arcade titles to modern consoles, has a proven track record of multi-platform releases. This expertise suggests Shenmue III could receive similar treatment, expanding its availability beyond its current PS4 and PC platforms. The possibility of a Nintendo Switch and Xbox release is now a very real prospect.
Shenmue III: A Continued Journey
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, Shenmue III continued the adventures of Ryo and Shenhua. The game, built using Unreal Engine 4, blends classic aesthetics with modern graphics, offering a vibrant and immersive experience. While receiving a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam (76%), some user feedback highlighted issues such as controller-only gameplay and delayed Steam key delivery. Despite these criticisms, the demand for an Xbox and Switch port remains strong.
A Shenmue Trilogy on the Horizon?
The acquisition could also pave the way for a Shenmue trilogy release under ININ Games. The publisher's current collaborations, such as the upcoming December 10th release of a physical and digital bundle of Taito games from the 80s and 90s (in partnership with HAMSTER Corporation), demonstrate their commitment to bringing classic titles to a new generation. While unconfirmed, the possibility of a Shenmue I and II re-release alongside Shenmue III is a tantalizing prospect for long-time fans. Shenmue I and II are currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
