Resident Evil's creator recently expressed strong interest in a Killer7 sequel during a presentation, sparking excitement among fans of Suda51's cult classic. Let's delve into the details of this intriguing discussion.
Mikami and Suda Hint at a Killer7 Sequel and Remaster
Killer7: A New Chapter or a Definitive Edition?
During a recent Grasshopper Direct, Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) and Goichi "Suda51" Suda explored the possibilities of both a Killer7 sequel and a complete edition of the original game. The focus of the presentation was the upcoming remastered version of Shadows of the Damned, but the conversation shifted to future projects. Mikami openly stated his desire for a Killer7 sequel, calling the original game a personal favorite.
Suda51 shared Mikami's enthusiasm, suggesting a sequel might indeed happen someday. He even tossed around potential titles like "Killer11" or "Killer7: Beyond."
Killer7, a 2005 action-adventure game for GameCube and PlayStation 2, masterfully blends horror, mystery, and Suda51's signature over-the-top violence. The game follows Harman Smith, a man capable of controlling seven distinct personalities, each with unique skills and weaponry. Despite its cult following, a sequel has remained elusive. Even after the 2018 PC remaster, Suda51 indicated his preference for a "Complete Edition" that would fully realize his original vision.
Mikami jokingly dismissed the Complete Edition idea as "lame," but the discussion revealed that the original game's concept included extensive dialogue for the character Coyote, which could be restored in such a release.
The mere suggestion of a sequel or complete edition has sent ripples of excitement through the fanbase. While no firm commitments have been made, the developers' shared enthusiasm offers a promising glimpse into the future of Killer7.
Mikami believes a Complete Edition would be well-received, to which Suda51 responded that the decision of whether to prioritize "Killer7: Beyond" or the Complete Edition would come later.
