Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Catch And Evolve Deino

Author : Isaac Feb 21,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize Hydreigon, a powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon's pre-evolutions, Deino and Zweilous, are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, requiring trading or transferring to obtain them in Pokémon Violet.

Acquiring Deino and Zweilous:

Deino and Zweilous are found in specific locations within Pokémon Scarlet:

  • Wild Encounters: Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). Note that Alfornada Cavern and Dalizapa Passage require Koraidon's high jump ability. Dalizapa Passage lies between Medali and Zapapico. Expect levels 35-40 in the caves.
  • Tera Raids: Three-star raids (post-3 gym badges) offer Deino with varying Tera Types and a chance for its Hidden Ability. Four-star raids provide Zweilous. Five and six-star raids may contain Hydreigon.

Transferring to Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino and its evolutions are Scarlet-exclusive, utilize Pokémon HOME to transfer them to Violet. This requires the Pokémon HOME app on your Switch. Transfer from compatible games like Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, or Pokémon Scarlet.

  1. Move Deino to your Basic Box in Pokémon HOME.
  2. Open Pokémon Violet in HOME and transfer Deino to a PC Box.

Evolution:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling or Exp. Candies (L and XL recommended) to expedite the process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon boasts a 600 base stat total, excelling in Special Attack and Attack with decent Speed. A Timid or Jolly Nature is suggested.

Stat Base Stat
HP 92
Attack 105
Sp. Attack 125
Defense 90
Sp. Def 90
Speed 98
Total 600

Type Effectiveness:

  • Super Effective Against: Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
  • Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
  • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
  • Immunities: Ground, Psychic

Terastallizing mitigates Hydreigon's 4x Fairy weakness. Its movepool allows for both physical and special attacking strategies. Learnset includes moves like Flash Cannon (via TM), Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse. The lack of physical Steel-type moves leans towards a special attacker build.
