Author : Christopher Feb 28,2025

This guide details how to obtain Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamence in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Bagon, a Dragon-type Pokémon evolving into the powerful Salamence, is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. This guide covers locating Bagon, transferring it to Scarlet, evolution methods, and Salamence's viability in battle.

Finding Bagon (Pokémon Violet):

Bagon can be found in several locations within Pokémon Violet:

  • East Province (Area Three): This expansive area, rich with explorable caves, offers a high chance of encountering Bagon.
  • South Province (Area Five): A fixed spawn Bagon resides atop a mountain southwest of the bridge separating the grassy and rocky regions.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Located north of the Great Crater and south of Glaseado Mountain, this area features a deep hole accessible by Koraidon/Miraidon, containing Bagon and other rare Pokémon.
  • 3-Star Tera Raids: Once you've earned three Gym Badges, participate in 3-Star Tera Raids for a chance to encounter Bagon (Tera Type may vary).

Obtaining Bagon in Pokémon Scarlet:

Since Bagon is Violet-exclusive, you must obtain it through trading or Pokémon HOME:

  • Trading: Utilize the Union Circle to trade with a Pokémon Violet player. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features.
  • Pokémon HOME: Transfer Bagon from compatible games (Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, etc.) to your Pokémon Scarlet game via Pokémon HOME. Instructions:
    1. Move Bagon to your HOME Basic Box.
    2. Open your Pokémon Scarlet game and transfer Bagon from the HOME Basic Box to a Scarlet PC Box.

Evolving Bagon:

  • Bagon to Shelgon: Level up Bagon to level 30.
  • Shelgon to Salamence: Level up Shelgon to level 50. Exp. Candy (L, XL, or M) significantly accelerates this process. Auto-battling against appropriate-level Pokémon, such as Chansey (found in various locations), is also effective. You can also obtain Shelgon and Salamence from higher-level Tera Raids (4-star and 5/6-star respectively).

Is Salamence a Viable Pokémon?

Salamence, a Dragon/Flying pseudo-legendary Pokémon (600 base stat total), remains a powerful choice:

  • Stats: HP: 95, Attack: 135, Sp. Attack: 110, Defense: 80, Sp. Defense: 80, Speed: 100. Adamant (+Attack, -Sp. Attack) or Lonely (+Attack, -Defense) natures are recommended for physical attackers. Timid (+Speed, -Attack) is suitable for special attackers.

  • Strengths & Weaknesses: Salamence excels against Dragon-type Pokémon. However, it has a significant weakness to Ice-type moves (x4). Other weaknesses include Fairy, Dragon, and Rock. It resists Grass, Water, Fire, Fighting, and Bug-type attacks and is immune to Ground.

  • Recommended Moves: Salamence's high Attack stat favors physical moves like Dragon Claw. Iron Head (TM099) counters Fairy and Rock weaknesses. For special attackers, Draco Meteor and Flamethrower are strong options.

This comprehensive guide ensures you can successfully acquire and utilize Bagon and its evolutions in your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet journey.
