Medabots Survivor: Classic RPG Meets Bullet Heaven Genre

If you've been keeping an eye on global game releases, you might be disappointed to learn about another title that's currently out of reach. Medabot Survivors, set to launch on February 10th, brings the beloved robot role-playing franchise back to mobile devices. However, the catch is that it's (say it with me) only available in Japan.

This news comes courtesy of Gematsu. Medabots might ring a bell for some of you, especially if you grew up during the era when Pokémon's success sparked a rush to bring any Japanese franchise with merchandising potential to the West. While Digimon gained a significant following (and some argue it even surpasses Pokémon), Medabots never quite made the same impact here.

In its home country of Japan, however, Medabots has been a major force in the gaming world. Though not a global phenomenon, it enjoys a much stronger following there than it ever did in the West. It's no surprise then that the next step for the franchise is diving into the Survivors-like genre, although for now, Medabots fans outside of Japan will have to wait to get their hands on it.

While the term "Survivors-like" might be relatively new, the genre itself predates the breakout hit Vampire Survivors. The release of Medabot Survivors is not just exciting for fans but also noteworthy as we observe the genre's rapid expansion worldwide.

Having gained some insight into the Japanese gaming scene, I can tell you there are many excellent releases that might never make it to other markets. If Medabot Survivors proves to be a hit, though, there's hope that it might eventually reach a global audience.

In the meantime, if you're eager to explore games you can play right now, why not take a look at our latest entry in Ahead of the Game?
