Cursed Objects (also known as "Cursed Possessions") are randomly generated items in Phasmophobia, appearing on various maps based on game mode and settings. Activation requires locating and interacting with them within the location.

Unlike standard in-van equipment, Cursed Objects offer advantages ("cheats") with significant drawbacks. Locating the ghost's preferred area or boosting your team always comes at a cost – rapid sanity loss, temporary blindness, or unexpected "cursed" hunts. Strategic use is paramount; sometimes, avoiding them is the better option. Note that Cursed Objects don't appear at all difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

Cursed Object Interaction

Currently, seven Cursed Objects exist in Phasmophobia, each with unique abilities and negative consequences. A common effect is substantial sanity reduction for the user. Proximity to the user increases the likelihood of a "cursed hunt" immediately following activation.

Cursed hunts are identical to regular hunts but disregard sanity levels, even if a hunt recently concluded. Their extended duration (20 seconds longer) makes escape more challenging, depending on difficulty settings.

The following table details each Cursed Object's function:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot CardsTen random cards; each provides buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. The "Death" card triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardDirect communication with the ghost. Specific questions (e.g., "Hide and Seek") or shattering the board initiate a Cursed Hunt.
Haunted MirrorReveals the ghost's favorite room. Shattering the mirror triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Music BoxReveals the ghost's location via a special event. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Summoning CircleSummons and traps the ghost. Always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is present.
Voodoo DollForces ghost interactions by pushing pins. Pushing the heart pin triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Monkey PawGrants wishes affecting the ghost or environment. Some wishes severely hinder the player.

Best Cursed Objects in Phasmophobia

Some Cursed Objects are safer and more beneficial than others, though availability depends on game mode and difficulty.

Haunted Mirror

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror is the safest, offering significant advantages with minimal risk. It quickly reveals the ghost's location, optimizing equipment placement and evidence gathering. However, prolonged use lowers sanity and shattering it triggers a Cursed Hunt.

Ouija Board

A reliable option, the Ouija Board reveals the ghost's location and bone location (for "Perfect Investigation" bonuses).
