Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its anticipated FPS title, Deadrop.

The studio revealed the news via an X post, stating, "Today we're announcing Midnight Society's closure after three years, leaving behind an incredible team of over 55 developers." The post also included a plea for job opportunities for its talented team members.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo). Deadrop, their flagship project, was envisioned as a free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter set in a retro-futuristic "80s never ended" universe. The game featured unique character designs, including helmets reminiscent of Daft Punk, and a blend of firearms and melee weapons. While initially targeting a 2024 release, Deadrop ultimately failed to meet its launch window.

The studio's dissolution follows Beahm's departure in 2024, stemming from a controversy involving inappropriate messages exchanged with a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this setback, Midnight Society persevered with Deadrop's development until its recent cancellation.

This closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges and restructuring within the current industry climate. Companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs have also experienced significant layoffs and project cancellations.
