Ex-Diablo devs are working on a new ARPG to innovate the genre
Former Diablo and Diablo II developers are creating a new, low-budget action RPG with ambitious goals. Their independent studio, Moon Beast Productions, secured $4.5 million in funding to develop a game that aims to "revolutionize" the genre by breaking away from established conventions. The team, comprised of veterans from the original Diablo titles, intends to revitalize the hack-and-slash experience, focusing on creating a more open and dynamic ARPG, harkening back to the elements that made the early Diablo games so successful.
While details about the game remain scarce, the involvement of highly experienced developers suggests significant potential. However, breaking into the already crowded ARPG market will be challenging. The recent success of Diablo IV's expansion, "Vessel of Hatred," and the immense popularity of Diablo itself, present a formidable hurdle. Furthermore, the recent release of Path of Exile 2, which achieved a peak player count exceeding 538,000 on Steam, further highlights the intense competition within the genre. The new ARPG faces a steep uphill battle against established giants, but the team's experience and vision offer a glimmer of hope for a truly innovative title.
