Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison

Citizen Sleeper 2 kicks off with a crucial decision: selecting your character's class – Operator, Machinist, or Extractor. This guide breaks down each class, helping you choose the best fit for your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.

Operator

The Operator boasts a +1 in Interface, starting levels in Intuit and Engage, and lacks Engineer skills. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their unique ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While powerful later on, the Operator can feel challenging early in the game. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed success. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers flexibility, allowing for diverse character interpretations.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a +1 in Engineer, alongside base levels in Interface and Intuit. Engage remains unlevelable. Their ability lets them spend Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress by 2 on positive outcomes. This ability improves significantly as the game progresses.

This class proved exceptionally useful during my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress and boost dice rolls in crucial situations is invaluable, especially given the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks. The Machinist is ideal for players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a +1 in Endure, starting levels in Engineer and Engage, but lacks Interface skills. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability that enhances crew performance on Contracts.

This ability shines in managing Contract risks. The starting bonus to Endure is also beneficial, given its frequent use. However, the abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lead to skill redundancy. The Extractor is perfect for players who enjoy a more aggressive, crew-focused approach.

This overview should assist you in selecting the Citizen Sleeper 2 class that best suits your gaming style and desired character arc.
