Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

"Among men, Lu Bu. Among horses, Red Hare." This game's frequent warnings against facing Lu Bu are not exaggerations. However, this guide details how to overcome this formidable foe.

Should You Fight Lu Bu?

Confronting Lu Bu is a significant challenge, potentially taking over an hour. Yet, there are compelling reasons to engage:

  • Bragging Rights: Defeating Lu Bu is a major accomplishment.
  • Story Progression: In Shu or Wei campaigns (Chapter 4, Battle of Xiapi), fighting Lu Bu is unavoidable.
  • Rewards: Victory at Hulao Gate awards the "The Strongest" trophy. Post-game victory unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd.

Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu

Before the battle, equip yourself strategically:

  • Weapon: A multi-hit sword to stagger him is crucial.
  • Battle Arts: Prioritize quick-activating, wide-range arts requiring minimal Bravery (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash).
  • Accessories: Maximize health and defense with items like Divine Bird's Wing and Divine Turtle's Shell.
  • Weapon Skill: Choose a skill granting Bravery upon Perfect Evade.

Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. His attacks have limited area of effect (AOE), except for Red Hare's jump attack. Exploit his brief pauses to unleash Battle Arts, then retreat. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts.

Phase 2: Lu Bu on Foot

Unmounted, Lu Bu is incredibly aggressive. His attacks are rapid, and he often moves with a red aura, indicating invulnerability to stuns. Evade his charges (he attacks in sets of three). A grab attack (aura-less charge) is devastating, but easily evaded.

His most dangerous move involves an orange glow, followed by three powerful ranged arrow attacks. Use Absconding Slash (or a similar ranged Battle Art) to counter this. Close-range arts are extremely risky. Keep your Musou gauge full for emergency invincibility. This phase emphasizes juggling Lu Bu to quickly build up your Battle Arts and break his Fortitude.

Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage

Upon reaching a certain health threshold, Lu Bu enters Musou Rage. He becomes unstaggerable and unleashes relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack (which, if successful, immediately resets the phase). Utilize all available resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid attacks – to overcome this final hurdle.

Conclusion

By employing these strategies, you can conquer Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The game is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
